Marine Polypropylene Webbing
Technical Specifications & Details
Overview
Marine Polypropylene Webbing (SKU: PPW-MR-003) is a high-tenacity woven strap engineered specifically for wet and saltwater environments. Constructed from 100% multifilament polypropylene yarn with a tight plain-weave or twill structure, it delivers a low-density fiber that floats on water while resisting absorption, rot, and mildew. The webbing is heat-set during finishing to lock weave stability, minimize stretch, and produce clean, fray-resistant edges suitable for cut-and-sew fabrication.
Key Features & Specifications
- Material and construction: 100% multifilament polypropylene, plain/twill weave, specific gravity of approximately 0.91 g/cm³ (floats on both fresh and salt water); heat-set for dimensional stability.
- Width and thickness: Standard widths of 20mm (0.79 in), 25mm (1 in), 38mm (1.5 in), and 50mm (2 in); nominal thickness ranging from 1.4mm to 2.2mm depending on width and weave density.
- Tensile / breaking strength: Approximately 2,000 lbs (8.9 kN) on 25mm width and up to 6,000–8,000 lbs (26.7–35.6 kN) on 50mm width; weight ranges from roughly 12 g/m (20mm) to 42 g/m (50mm).
- Water and chemical resistance: Near-zero water absorption (under 0.05%), plus strong resistance to mildew, rot, saltwater corrosion, most acids, and alkalis, with no loss of strength when wet.
- UV resistance: UV-stabilized formulation retains 80–85% of tensile strength after 500+ hours of accelerated weathering; low-fade pigments maintain color under prolonged sun exposure.
- Abrasion and temperature: Good abrasion resistance for the fiber class; continuous service temperature range of approximately -20°C to 80°C (-4°F to 176°F), with a low melting point near 165°C (329°F) that allows clean heat-cutting and sealed edges.
Applications
- Marine seating and upholstery: Used as suspension strapping and support webbing in boat seats, pontoon furniture, and deck loungers, where floating properties and mildew resistance extend service life in constant humidity.
- Boat accessories and dock equipment: Applied in fender lines, tie-downs, bumper straps, mooring accessories, and dock cart straps that require reliable performance despite repeated saltwater exposure.
- Life jackets and personal flotation devices: Selected for PFD adjustment straps and body webbing because the fiber's buoyancy and non-absorbent nature keep hardware light and functional in the water.
- Outdoor water sports gear: Integrated into kayak and paddleboard tie-downs, wakeboard bindings, kiteboarding straps, and rafting equipment that must dry quickly and resist rot between uses.
- General wet-environment strapping: Suitable for pool and waterpark equipment, aquaculture rigging, and car-wash or marina hardware where standard nylon or cotton webbing would absorb water and degrade.
Customization & Wholesale
