Overview

Polyester webbing is a woven textile strap manufactured from high-tenacity polyester (PET) multifilament yarns, engineered for load-bearing and restraint applications across industrial, outdoor, and consumer markets. The material is produced using standard flat weave, twill, or tubular constructions depending on end-use requirements, with warp and weft densities tuned to balance strength, flexibility, and surface finish. Polyester is selected over nylon and polypropylene where dimensional stability, low water absorption, and long-term UV performance are priorities, making it a preferred base material for outdoor and safety-critical products.

Key Properties & Specifications

  • Tensile strength: ranges from approximately 1,200 lbs (5.3 kN) for lightweight 25mm constructions up to 9,000 lbs (40 kN) for heavy-duty 50mm+ high-density weaves; seat belt grades typically achieve 6,000-8,000 lbs (26.7-35.6 kN).
  • Width range: 10mm to 100mm standard, with common sizes at 20mm, 25mm, 38mm, and 50mm; custom widths available on tooling.
  • Thickness: 0.8mm to 2.5mm depending on weave density and yarn denier (commonly 900D to 1500D).
  • Elongation at break: 12% to 20%, lower than nylon (20-30%), providing better dimensional stability under sustained load.
  • UV resistance: retains roughly 85-90% of original tensile strength after 500 hours of accelerated UV exposure (per ISO 4892 / QUV testing), significantly outperforming polypropylene.
  • Water absorption: less than 1%, with negligible strength loss when wet, unlike nylon which can lose 10-20% wet strength.
  • Abrasion resistance: high surface durability suited to repeated cycling over hardware; rated for extended cycle testing on buckles and D-rings.
  • Temperature range: continuous service from -40°C to +120°C, with a melting point near 250-260°C.
  • Chemical resistance: stable against most dilute acids, bleaches, and solvents; resistant to mildew and rot.

Popular Products

Heavy Duty Polyester Webbing

Constructed with high-density weaves and heavier deniers to reach tensile ratings up to 9,000 lbs (40 kN). It is the primary choice for cargo securement, industrial lifting slings, and towing applications where maximum load capacity and minimal stretch are required.

Seat Belt Polyester Webbing

Manufactured to automotive restraint standards with controlled elongation and a smooth, tightly woven surface that feeds cleanly through retractors and buckles. Typical widths are 46mm-50mm with tensile strength in the 6,000-8,000 lbs range, and it is available in occupant-restraint and equipment-restraint grades.

Reflective Polyester Webbing

Integrates reflective yarns or a bonded reflective strip into the weave to provide high-visibility performance in low-light conditions. It is used for safety harnesses, pet collars, and workwear where nighttime visibility and retroreflective compliance are needed, while retaining the base strength of standard polyester.

Sublimation Polyester Webbing

Features a smooth, receptive surface optimized for dye-sublimation printing, allowing full-color, photographic-quality graphics that penetrate the fibers rather than sitting on the surface. This makes it ideal for branded lanyards, custom straps, and promotional products where print durability and vivid color are essential.

Outdoor Polyester Webbing

Formulated with enhanced UV stabilization and weather resistance for prolonged exposure to sunlight, moisture, and temperature cycling. It is used in backpacks, tents, climbing accessories, and outdoor gear where long service life under environmental stress is critical.

Pet Polyester Webbing

Produced in softer hand-feel constructions with a wide range of colors and printable surfaces, balancing comfort against durability for collars, leashes, and harnesses. It resists fading, chewing wear, and moisture, making it suitable for daily-use pet products.

Applications

Cargo and load securement: Heavy-duty grades are used in ratchet straps, tie-downs, and lashing systems for trucking, shipping, and logistics, where low elongation keeps loads stable during transit.

Automotive safety restraints: Seat belt webbing is deployed in passenger vehicles, commercial fleets, and specialty equipment restraint systems that require certified tensile performance and consistent retractor feed.

Personal protective equipment and fall protection: High-strength constructions serve as the base for safety harnesses, lanyards, and positioning straps, often combined with reflective yarns for worksite visibility.

Outdoor and recreational gear: Outdoor-grade webbing is incorporated into backpacks, tactical equipment, climbing slings, tents, and hammocks where UV stability and low water absorption extend product lifespan.

Branding, promotional, and ID products: Sublimation webbing supports lanyards, event badges, custom straps, and branded accessories that require full-color, wash-resistant graphics.

Pet and consumer products: Pet-grade webbing is used for collars, leashes, and harnesses, as well as general consumer goods such as bag straps and adjustable belts where color variety and comfort are priorities.

Customization & Wholesale

WebbingMaker supplies polyester webbing to global wholesale and bulk buyers with flexible customization across construction, dimensions, and finishing.

Minimum order quantity: standard MOQ is 500m per color per specification for stock constructions, with custom-tooled widths and specialty weaves typically starting at 3,000m to 5,000m to offset setup costs.

Custom widths and thickness: available from 10mm to 100mm, with tailored deniers and weave densities to meet specific tensile and hand-feel targets. Custom tooling can be developed for non-standard widths and edge profiles.

Colors: standard color-card options plus custom Pantone (PMS) color matching, with dope-dyed options available for maximum UV colorfastness on outdoor grades.

Printing and branding: services include silk-screen printing, heat-transfer printing, jacquard woven logos, and full-color dye sublimation. Reflective striping and woven-in reflective yarns are available for high-visibility requirements.

OEM and ODM: full OEM production to buyer specifications and drawings, as well as ODM development support for new webbing designs, including sample development and pre-production approval samples.

Quality and compliance: production supports testing to relevant international standards for tensile strength, elongation, UV aging, and colorfastness. Certificates and test reports can be provided for restraint and safety-grade orders, and material can be produced to meet OEKO-TEX and REACH requirements where specified.

Lead time: sampling typically takes 7-10 days; bulk production lead time is approximately 15-30 days depending on order volume, custom tooling, and finishing requirements.

Export capabilities: packaging in standard rolls, spools, or cut-to-length pieces, with export to North America, Europe, South America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Shipping terms available on FOB, CIF, and EXW bases, with support for container consolidation and documentation for international freight.

Packaging: standard packing on plastic spools or in coils, poly-bagged and boxed, with custom labeling and private-label packaging available for distributors and brand owners.

For volume pricing, technical data sheets, and specification-matched samples, buyers can submit target tensile ratings, widths, colors, and intended application to receive a tailored quotation and pre-production sample.
